Keep setup short
The payments workspace should only answer three questions: is a provider connected, which provider is live, and has the checkout been tested end to end.
Do not treat this page like a finance dashboard. The seller only needs the next step and a clear path to provider-native tooling when deeper finance work is required.
Recommended order
Connect Stripe if the seller wants the fastest Standard-account path for one-time and recurring checkout.
Connect PayPal with one click from the payments workspace. Keep manual merchant ID entry only as fallback.
Choose one active provider for live checkout. The active provider is what product checkout routes to for paid sales.
Run one full buyer-style test from the public storefront before treating setup as complete.
Minimal support language
If neither provider is connected, the next action is setup.
If a provider is connected but none is marked live, the next action is provider selection.
If a live provider is already set, the next action is testing and exception follow-up only.
